What was the inspiration for launching your organization? When I decided to leave the teaching profession after 12 years in the classroom, I was ready to pursue what at that time was a dream to become an entrepreneur. That was over 30 years ago! I bought a franchise. Everyone thought I was crazy. A typical comment was, “How can you give up your career, vacations, benefits, etc. to owning a retail business? You’ll have to work year round including weekends!” No one and nothing could persuade me. It was time and I as ready. I was determined. I was tired of someone else directing my life. I wanted control even if that meant long hours, hard work and an unknown future. Twelve years later I owned 6 franchises and became the company’s Regional Director with responsibility to oversee 22 other stores. More details about my journey
What role is your organization playing in the economic recovery of your local women in business market? Women need to connect as only they know how to do. XC provides a more intimate and productive setting where women can really share about themselves, the products/services they offer, build relationships, increase data base AND get support they deserve.
Is the economy in your area booming, floundering or stagnant? I think the economy is perfect for professional women who want to play BIG. And, XC is for that person.
Do you have a career or business? If so, please tell us about it. I am a professional speaker/author and am full time training/building Xperience Connections in its expansion.
What’s innovative or unique about your organization? Intimate/3 minute showcase/complete roster/no speaker/productive and supportive.
What’s a little known fact about your organization? My associates can answer this question better than I can.
Several years ago, I was invited to attend a Joy of Connecting meeting (now Xperience Connections). During my first meeting, I knew I was in the RIGHT place with the RIGHT people. The energy was supportive, enlivening and FUN! The diversity of attendee’s and the relaxed nature of the event lead to a lot of business taking place. With each meeting, I met incredible women in business and made many friends along the way. AND MY PRACTICE GREW. By having the opportunity to speak on a one-on-one basis at the meetings, I was able to make connections that were not possible at other events. Dr. Cheryl Langley – Langley Family Chiropractic, PC
Through JOC/Xperience Connections I have gained incredibly supportive friends and referral partners, and found some amazing services and resources…including but not limited to legal protection, insurance, skin care, pet sitting services, marketing, nutrition, thermography, photography, coaches, jewelry and catering. I have also found some incredible speakers for my trade association’s conferences and local meetings, as well as authors for articles for our manual and magazine. It’s amazing to me the diversity of the world around us and what interesting occupations and professions people find to fuel their passions…my life before networking was focused on the friends I made at my corporate job…it seems like shades of gray now compared to all of the colorful people I’ve met through Xperience Connections. What types of events do you give? Monthly XC gatherings designed specifically around making a difference for women and their businesses.
What advertising and sponsorship opportunities are available through your organization? Sponsorship for our annual anniversary celebration – August/2014 – just had our 11th
What words of wisdom can you share with women as 2013 comes to a close? “Everything in your life you create, promote, allow or step in. If there is something in your life you no longer choose – take full responsibility for changing it. You are in the driver’s seat. Period.”
